Sweeping Up at Colwick

In what must surely be a first for the club, we won both the mens and races at the Colwick Woods cross country and the men achieved a clean sweep of the top three places – take a bow winners Oliver Matharu and Natalie Hoffman, and our other podium-placed men, Craig Taylor and Eddy George.

The results leave our senior men in a commanding position in the series with three wins out of three and our vet ladies in almost as strong a position, needing just a second place next week to seal the title. Our vet men need another win to be sure of the title, while the senior ladies are going to need a win and other results to go their way to get the win.

The series concludes next Sunday, 9th February at West Park, Long Eaton.

Great Start to the East Mids Series

For the first time any of us can remember, we had winners in both the mens and womens races at the first race of the East Mids series at Bramcote. Take a bow, Oliver Matharu and Claire Lewis. They were backed up by strong performances all through the field so our senior men and vet ladies took a win and our vet men and senior ladies a second place. Our B teams are handily placed too, so there’s going to be all to play for in this year’s series which is packed into the next few weeks.

There’s no let up in the action, as the next race is next Sunday which we’re hosting at Holme Pierrepont. As ever, if you can’t run and are able to marshal, please help out on the course.

East Mids Cross Country – Lots of Bling!

After the final race of the East Mids season at Long Eaton, both of our teams came home with a hat-full of trophies for the series.

In the exceptionally flat Long Eaton race, Oliver Matharu was again just pipped for the win and Gabrielle Caveney also grabbed a second place. Our ladies took three of the top five places.

In the series, our ladies won both the senior and vet trophies and our men the vets trophy. With the various B, C and D categories to add for each, we came home with a total of nine trophies!

Thanks to all of you who turned out throughout the series and thanks as ever for all the hard work from the organisers and in particular Shirley Starr.

Bramcote Cross Country Results

We had an excellent day at the first East Mids cross country race at Bramcote. In lovely conditions, our senior and vet men and our vet ladies all scored a win on this challenging course and lead their respective series.

There’s no let-up in the action, as the next race is our own at the Water Sports Centre next Sunday, 13th January. So let’s have another great turnout and if you’re not running, please help out with the marshaling.

January Is Cross Country Month

In the absence of many road races, January is the month for cross country and we have a host of races, big and small, for you including some double header weekends.

We start with the Notts AAA championships on 5th January¬† – you need to have entered by 7th December for this. We then kick off the East Mids league on Sunday 6th. The East Mids league is similar to the summer league in size, with clubs from the local area and courses around 3 miles for the ladies and 5-6 for the men. We have another double header weekend on 12th and 13th January, with the final North Mids on the Saturday at Wollaton and our own race at the Water Sports Centre on the Sunday – please help out with marshalling if you’re not running. The final cross country of the month is the Midlands champs at Leamington Spa on Saturday 26th, leaving you just enough time to get back for the Annual Dinner!

See the Cross Country page for more details.

North Mids at Kettering 10th November

The next North Mids cross country race is at Wicksteed Park, Kettering. It’s on Barton Road and the post code is NN15 6NJ. We had a fine turnout for the first race and are currently sitting second in the womens vets and fifth in the mens vets. It’s the furthest race on the calendar, but let’s keep our great start to the season going. This race is free to members and we encourage runners of all abilities to take part.
