Grand Prix Series

CRY.jpg

The Grand Prix event has been running for 40 years and is an exciting series

of 4 mid-week evening races set over 2 weeks.

We have an early bird offer with 4 races for the price of 3 until 17th May.

New for 2024: Measured 5 mile course, return of the famous Grand Prix t-shirt, water at the end of each race, chip start and finish timing, live results, social awards evening at The Boat Club after the last race.

All races start at 7:15pm and are under UKA rules:

Race 1: Tuesday 25th June - Rushcliffe Country Park 4 miles

Race 2: Thursday 27th June - Holme Pierrepont 10k*

Race 3: Tuesday 2nd July - Colwick Park 5 miles*

Race 4: Thursday 4th July - Victoria Embankment 5k*

 * Official measured distance

Remember to smile 😊 our official race photographers will be there. All photos are free and will be posted to social media after the event.

The four events are inclusive to all runners with no time cutoffs. All abilities are welcome. They’re brilliant, friendly events whether you’ve been racing for years, are new to running, or looking for the next step after Parkrun or "Couch to 5K".  All of the courses are on road or hard-packed paths with a small amount of grass at Rushcliffe. They are largely flat (which are perfect for going for a PB).

Prizes

East Midlands Club Challenge: best placed running club with over 10 entries in all four races (min of 5 female scores per race per team).  The entrants do not have to be the same 10 runners across all races.  Clubs do not need to set up their teams on the entry form, we will pull out the top 10 results.  From 2024 the trophy will be known as The Steve Shanks Memorial Trophy.

Individual prizes across all age categories for women and men (Open: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Male/Female, then 35+, 45+, 55+, 65+, 75+ Male/Female).  There will be no multiple prizes in 2024, i.e. 1st, 2nd and 3rd M and F will not be eligible for additional age category prizes.

Spot prizes (including free entry to other local events) and a raffle on the last night at the social event.

T-Shirts

Runners who enter all 4 races will be able to buy a t-shirt at the cost price of £8.78 each (i.e. at no profit to us). These can be pre-ordered up to 17th May, are in recycled Neoteric™ fabric, and come in unisex or ladies/slim fit.  The design and colour will be unveiled on the last night and pre-ordered t-shirts can be collected at the awards venue by showing your bib.

Practical Info

Plenty of parking and toilets are available at each race and the events are well supported with enthusiastic and encouraging marshals and spectators. Race numbers/bibs are available for collection on the night.  Ensure you leave plenty of time to park, collect your number, warm up, etc. (bring safety pins if you have any spare).  Please note that you’ll need to keep your number for all of the races you take part in.

The social awards evening on the last night will be at The Boat Club from 7:30-10:30 pm with the option to purchase food and drinks.  Here we will give out the pre-ordered t-shirts and prizes.  There will also be a raffle that all runners can enter by submitting their race bibs.

Limited on-the-day entries will be available for £20 (but entrants are not eligible to win series prizes).

The minimum age for participants is 15 for races 1, 2 or 3 and 13 for race 4. The SI Entries entry page only allows us to check for over 15 so please contact us if you are 13 or 14 and want to enter race 4.

In order to keep the entry price as low as possible we do not offer cancellations, refunds or transfers.

Ear phones (including bone conducting) are not allowed due to EA Regulations. Some events are on or close to roads and it's important to be able to communicate to runners during an emergency situation.

Do let us know if you have any questions, we’d love to help you out.  Further details of the events will be sent out by email a few weeks before the first event. Race photos will be posted on our Facebook page.

We can’t wait for you to join us in 2024!

FAQs

  • Why have the entry prices increased over last year?

We have been subjected to increases in venue and facility pricing for the last few years and have maintained the entry price.  Unfortunately we can no longer hold the price and have applied a small increase.  T-shirts are also being offered on an optional basis to keep the increase to everyone as low as possible.  We hope you feel the event is good value for 4 races, and we will offer the early-bird offer up to 17 th May (4 races for the price of 3).  We also donate any excess profits to our annual charity.

  • Is there parking at the awards ceremony on the last night?

There is no parking at The Boat Club but you can leave your cars in the race car park.  For safety reasons please keep to the left of the river when walking down, and walk underneath Trent Bridge to avoid crossing the main road.

  • Are there disabled facilities?

Unfortunately the courses are not suitable for wheelchair racing due to speedbumps and the width of some elements of the courses. However, disabled spectators are welcome (and can access) all courses (please note that the Embankment doesnt have a disabled toilet but there is one at the awards venue).

  • What do I do if I see an error in the results?

Please report to the events team:  grandprix@hprcrun.co.uk

  • Can I bring my dog?

All races are under EA regulations and so unfortunately runners can't be accompanied by dogs in the races.
